Raj received his PhD in experimental applied physics under Prof. Mark Kasevich at Stanford University in 2017. His work was focused on entangling atoms for quantum metrology – specifically creating “spin-squeezed” states of ensembles of rubidium atoms to improve the precision of atomic clocks and atom interferometers. After his graduation, he briefly took up a joint-postdoctoral position at AT&T Foundry and Caltech, working on quantum speedups for machine learning algorithms. In March 2018 he joined Goldman Sachs as a FAST (Franchise Analytics, Strategies and Technologies) strat where he worked on implementing machine learning based price discrimination algorithms for FX (foreign exchange) products. In September 2019 he transferred to the R&D team in Goldman where his work has been to focus on research in quantum computing applications in finance.
